QS 9000 / ISO 9001 Certificate
& ISO 14001 Certificate:
Rutland began the quest for QS - 9000
registration in March 1998 and the process
took 17 months to complete. The tasks
involved developing a quality manual,
preparing documentation, employee training
and internal auditing to the Standard.
In August 1999, the company was assessed
by BVQI, a third party auditor, and received
registration to QS-9000/ISO 9001 in September
1999. To ensure the system is maintained
we will be under surveillance bi-annually
by BVQI.
QS-9000 is a quality management system
that was developed by the Big 3 Automakers
in an effort to harmonize their individual
systems. QS- 9000 uses the 20 elements
of ISO 9001:1994 as the foundation and
provides for continuous improvement. The
system emphasizes defect prevention and
the reduction of variation and waste in
the supply chain.
This registration is a requirement
for doing business with the automotive
industry and gives Rutland an edge over
major competitors. Our internal benefits
are greater control of the business
and improved discipline resulting in
consistency in our processes. Our external
benefits are customer satisfaction and
increased market share.
More recently, Rutland began certification
for ISO 14001 - Environmental Management
Systems in Q2 2002. A short 6 months
later BVQI awarded certification to
Rutland for this ever-important environmental
system.
